Quasi-GothWatch: Tibby Rollins

TibbyYes, I know that ‘Tibby’ (as portrayed by Amber Tamblyn) doesn’t actually identify herself as a “Goth” in The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants movies… she’s more of a generic, PG-rated outsider/rebel character… but she does wear an awful lot of black clothes, which frequently feature skulls and other “gothic” design elements… and she does display all of the character traits that a fella like me looks for in the Goth archetype (sardonic sense of humour, social introversion and a disdain for the mundane). In fact, I enjoyed the character so much, I’d quite like to see her story from the first movie expanded into a solo feature… it just had such a macabre, “indie” vibe to it… like a less disappointing/annoying My First Mister!

In real life, Tamblyn seems like a pretty cool cat too… she’s the goddaughter of Dean Stockwell, Dennis Hopper and Neil Young… and when she isn’t acting up a storm, she writes critically acclaimed poetry books. She’s also currently dating the comedian David Cross… which I only mention because it gives me hope that maybe, sometimes, occasionally the groovy gals do make passes at nerdy guys with glasses…
