Worth a Queen’s Ransom

Carrienap01Amara Karan (aka The Most Beautiful British Actress Alive*) returns to our screens this week, in a new ITV drama called Kidnap and Ransom. As you may have guessed from the show’s incredibly imaginative title, this three part thriller revolves around a kidnapping (specifically that of an English businesswoman working in South Africa), and the intervention of an expert hostage negotiator played by Trevor Eve. The ransom is paid, the release is botched, blah, blah, blah, fishcakes. All I care about is the fact that Karan was cast in the role of Eve’s “ambitious assistant Carrie”. Skimming the synopsis, it doesn’t seem like she’ll play too large a part in the story, which is a shame… but since the series was created by a guy who’s previously written for 24, it’s always possible that there’ll be some wacky twists along the way, and she’ll be revealed as the fiendish mastermind behind the whole scheme… or something. In an ideal world, of course, Karan would be starring in her own shows… preferably comedies, written by me… but for now, we just have to enjoy the meagre scraps that we’re thrown. Tch.

Kidnap and Ransom starts on Thursday 13 January 2011, 9pm.
