JG on BBC3!?

Janeane Garofalo and Johnny Vegas on the set of “Ideal”I didn’t bother watching Ideal when it first started airing back in 2005, because the premise didn’t sound very promising… for those who don’t know, the sitcom centres around the flat of a small-time cannabis dealer named ‘Moz’ (played by Johnny Vegas), and the “eclectic array” of characters who pop by to buy cannabis from him or just hang-out. Kinda meh, right? Well, a couple of years later, I happened to be channel-surfing when I came across an episode and was drawn in by the dark absurdity of it, and the properly scary freakshow of characters who make up the extended cast. Unfortunately, it’s been written as more of a “comedy-drama” than a traditional sitcom, with various continuing story arcs, so it’s not something you can really dip in and out of… and I eventually gave up watching it again in frustration.

But, the seventh series started on Sunday, and I decided I’d give it another go… only to discover that Janeane Garofalo has joined the cast as ‘Tilly’, an American artist who lives next door to Moz! Needless to say, it’s now become essential viewing for me… and I’ll have to keep an eye out for a DVD of the sixth series, which is when her character was introduced… it even has her picture on the cover! How did I miss that? Well, in my defence, it isn’t listed on her IMDb page either… and I can’t keep track of everything, dammit!

(Hopefully the excessive number of exclamation marks in this post adequately conveys my astonishment)

She hasn’t been in it very much so far, but there’s rather a large cast of other suppporting characters, so that’s fair enough. She’s very funny though… and so cute with her big brown eyes… sigh…
