Amy Winehouse (1983-2011)

Amy Winehouse (1983-2011)Holy shit… I come online to check my e-mails, and find this tragic news posted on Yahoo’s front page. To quote the BBC site:

Singer Amy Winehouse, 27, has been found dead at her north London home. A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed that a 27-year-old woman had died in Camden and that the cause of death was as yet unexplained. London Ambulance Service said it had been called to the flat at 1554 BST and sent two vehicles but the woman died. Her record label Universal called her “a gifted musician, artist and performer”, adding: “Our prayers go out to Amy’s family, friends and fans.”

Dammit. Obviously she hasn’t released much of late, but I still have a poster of her on my wall, and kept hoping that she’d pull through somehow… make a glorious comeback and stick two-fingers up at the snarky cynics who were always mocking her. Apparently not.

I’m a little surprised by how upset I feel right now… but yeah, a very sad day for British music. Rest in peace, Amy.
