Lucky Canucks!

Meredith MacNeil, ace reporter for “This Hour has 22 Minutes”, pictured at the auditions for a Canadian version of “The Bachelor” (2/2012)If you’re anything like me, you’ve been unable to sleep recently, tossing and turning in your bed, desperately wondering “What is Meredith MacNeill up to these days?” Well, we’ll all be able to catch some Zs tonight, safe in the knowledge that she’s currently appearing on a Canadian series called This Hour Has 22 Minutes!

For those who don’t know (and yes, I was one of them), this weekly satirical  comedy show debuted in 1993, during Canada’s 35th general election, and takes the form of a mock news program, intercut with sketches, parody commercials, interviews, and on-location reports. Over the years the show has picked up 24 Gemini Awards and 11 Canadian Comedy Awards, so it clearly has a good pedigree, even if it isn’t super-famous over here in Blighty.

I can’t quite figure out when MacNeill first started working on the show, but it seems to be a fairly recent development, and she’s still only a minor cast member… although a recent skit in which she auditioned for a (bona fide) Canadian version of The Bachelor did score her a photo and name-check in The Toronto Star, which is one of the country’s best-selling newspapers, so that’s pretty cool, eh?
