Voxy: Week 13

Cody Frost performing on "The Voice" (UK) (ep #5.13)And so the four finalists for this series of The Voice (UK) have been decided by public vote… and, by a pleasing stroke of luck, there’s an equitable 50/50 gender split, with both of my faves, Lydia Lucy and Cody Frost, representing the sisterhood. Hurrah!

Apparently there was more to the “messy sound” that undermined Cody’s performance last week than I’d picked up on, as she mournfully admitted she’d been both “out of key” and “out of time”, and Boy George referenced a few “bum notes”… which just goes to show you how tone-deaf and clueless about music I actually am. Everyone was a lot happier with her work this time around… though she seems to have lost the bookies’ confidence, with her odds of winning slipping significantly… possibly as a result of some rather lacklustre song choices (in my ill-informed opinion) over the last couple episodes? Whatever the reason, it obviously doesn’t preclude her from delivering a game-changing showstopper in next week’s finale, to claim the crown and complete her “comeback” from the jaws of tearful failure, right?* Fingers crossed! Either way, she got my vote this week… and I totally agree with Paloma Faith when she says she’d happily buy Cody’s album tomorrow, if it existed!

Oh, and at the risk of sounding like a broken record (too late!) TeamPaloma performed a three-handed (mouthed?) version of Janis Joplin’s “Piece Of My Heart“, that once again got me hankering for a full-tilt rock-and-roll album from Ms. Faith… preferably with a guest appearance by Cody, of course…

* If I was Cody’s coach, I’d advise her to bust out the “Mad World” cover… just her singing over a mournful piano… there wouldn’t be a dry eye in the house!
